Why I failed my habit, and what I learned pt.1

Gym bro.
Gym bro.

I am starting a new campaign where I write blogs daily and record videos to post everyday. After reading Atomic Habit from James Clear, I would like to share my failed experience and how I will approach a habit differently.

I started a habit of working out in Hong Kong, I signed up for 10 visits per month for 6 months. When I started, it seemed easy, twice a week, every afternoon is my workout time.

However, the gym was far from my place, it is easiest to go after work, but work ends at 7 or 8 and I would be drained to take the extra 15-minute trip to the gym. On days that I went, I was dragging through the workout and being drained from work and gym, I would get in the sauna and shower, taking another 40 minutes till I am out of the gym.

Naturally, I would be starving and not want to commute another 30 minutes to cook at home.

In conclusion, the traction for this habit was too heavy and consuming extra time and energy where I could be developing elsewhere. I was in a dilemma, is my identity shaped off workout? What should I cut? How could I change?

I will continue on the next blog :p
